From Modern Art to Antique Rugs, Eclectic offerings Yielded a Strong June Sale

The June sale at Locati LLC brought in bidders across many categories, resulting in high hammer prices that exceeded estimates for a mix of objects, including a modern work by Peter Miller (American, 1913-1986) that sold for $9,250. The painting's estimated value was set at $4,000 to $6,000.

Modern art on the whole did well at the sale on June 19 at Locati's new headquarters in Bucks County, Pa. Another example was a painting by Henry Faulkner (American, 1924 - 1981) estimated at $5,000 to $8,000 that sold for $5,750 and a Loredano Rosin, Murano sculpture that went for $1,300.

Other winning bids included a set of porcelain dinnerware by Royal Crown Derby for $2,200 (estimated at $500 to $1,000); an antique Turkish Oushak carpet in very worn condition for $3,300, and a group of Carroll Tyson bird prints, $3,300.

The sale netted strong prices in all of Locati's top categories. Additional highlights included:

In the Asian category, a pair of Chinese silk embroidered rank badges sold for $3,000. In jewelry, an 18k pair of gold, diamond, and turquoise earrings were bid to $1,100.

A highlight among furniture lots was a pair of John Hutton for Donghia rattan accent tables sold for an impressive $1,000.00.

Co-owner Michael Locati said the auction house's new location has helped drive more buyers to sales, and has also resulted in more property coming through the doors.

"We encourage buyers to preview the upcoming auction at our auction house in Pineville," Locati said. "We love having an open space to meet both new buyers and consignors and are always happy to answer questions about the objects for sale," he said.

Each sale has a preview period during which prospective buyers can check out and place bids on the upcoming lots. The preview for the June sale ran from June 5 to 19.

Locati holds monthly auctions from September through June each year, always offering an eclectic mix of categories, from jewelry and silver to fine art and furniture.

Locati's September sale promises to have many exciting and quality lots. Bidders can view the catalog starting September 4th; live auction will be September 18th.
