Portrait Miniature Expert Elle Shushan Speaks at Locati LLC

Updated: Oct 9, 2023

The well-known authority of antique portrait miniatures Elle Shushan will give a short lecture on the subject on October 7th at 7pm at Locati LLC in Pineville PA (central Bucks County). The idea of Elle coming to the Bucks County auction house was inspired by a good and large collection of portrait miniatures that Locati LLC is selling in their October auction. " We thought it would be great to have a lecture tied to this wonderful collection", said co-owner Michael Locati, "We think it will be exciting for people to learn about this fascinating subject from a recognized expert and also have the opportunity to bid on pieces that will be included in auction," continued Locati. Ms. Shushan has served on the faculty of the Sotheby's Institute of Art and the Winterthur Museum Graduate Program in Material Culture. She has lectured throughout the United States at major institutions including the Delaware Art Museum, The Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, Colonial Williamsburg and many others. As a dealer in portrait miniatures her clients have included The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC, The Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY. Throughout her career she has written books and scholarly articles on the subject, including the books The Way Sisters: Miniaturists of the Early Republic and Lover's Eyes: Eye Miniatures from the Skier Collection.

Locati’s October auction will include over fifty lots of portraits that mostly date to the 18th and early 19th centuries. Most of the portraits feature children, and the lecture will be centered on that aspect.

Online bidding for Locati LLC's October auction catalog will begin on October 1, and the live auction will take place on October 15 in Pineville at noon. Locati LLC is located at 761 Durham Rd, Pineville, PA (GPS: Furlong 18925).
